The installer file will be multiple GB. Big Sur is 12.6GB, for example, so expect downloading to take a while. For older versions of macOS. On a Mac that is compatible with El Capitan, open the disk image and run the installer within, named InstallMacOSX.pkg. It installs an app named Install OS X El Capitan into your Applications folder. The tiny (just tens of megabytes) incomplete installer requires an internet connection during usage to download the rest of the Catalina update files. Additionally, it does not allow to create a macOS Catalina USB installer drive for use on multiple computers.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to download the complete “Install macOS Catalina.app” file from Apple server using the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app instead of via the Mac App Store.
A similar mini-installer issue occurred previously with some users getting a tiny incomplete macOS High Sierra installer and macOS Mojave installer too and I covered a similar workaround here and here to download the complete installer file from Apple server.About the app
In this workaround, we’re going to use the macOS Catalina Patcher app from the dosdude1.com. This app is intended for those with unsupported Macs and Hackintosh users, but any Mac user can use the app to be able to download the complete macOS Catalina installer file from Apple server. For our purposes in this particular walkthrough, we will use the app only to download the complete installer file.
Note! This method relies on a third party app from an unverified third party source. If you are not comfortable with using unvetted and unverified software, do not follow this process.Let’s begin
Downloading the complete “Install macOS Catalina.app” file from Apple server using the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app is a really easy process. Now, step by step guide.
Go to the official website of the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app here and download the app.
The download link is labeled as “Download Latest Version” on that page.
Launch the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app.
Note! By default, macOS preventing apps from unidentified developers or sources from being launched. So you most likely will get an alert message that says: “macOS Catalina Patcher.app can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”. To allow just one specific app to run do the following:
*Hold down the Control key and click the app icon. From the contextual menu choose Open.
*A popup will appear asking you to confirm this action. Click the Open button.
Click the “Continue” button, and then select “Download a Copy”.
Confirm that you want to download the “Install macOS Catalina.app” app to start the download to your hard drive.
Close the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app when the download is complete and locate the “Install macOS Catalina.app” file you downloaded.

Note! Remember, the “Install macOS Catalina.app” file deletes itself automatically after macOS Catalina has successfully installed. Therefore, you may want to make a backup by having previously copied it to external storage.

The tiny (just tens of megabytes) incomplete installer requires an internet connection during usage to download the rest of the Catalina update files. Additionally, it does not allow to create a macOS Catalina USB installer drive for use on multiple computers.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to download the complete “Install macOS Catalina.app” file from Apple server using the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app instead of via the Mac App Store.
A similar mini-installer issue occurred previously with some users getting a tiny incomplete macOS High Sierra installer and macOS Mojave installer too and I covered a similar workaround here and here to download the complete installer file from Apple server.About the app
In this workaround, we’re going to use the macOS Catalina Patcher app from the dosdude1.com. This app is intended for those with unsupported Macs and Hackintosh users, but any Mac user can use the app to be able to download the complete macOS Catalina installer file from Apple server. For our purposes in this particular walkthrough, we will use the app only to download the complete installer file.
Note! This method relies on a third party app from an unverified third party source. If you are not comfortable with using unvetted and unverified software, do not follow this process.Let’s begin
Downloading the complete “Install macOS Catalina.app” file from Apple server using the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app is a really easy process. Now, step by step guide.
Go to the official website of the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app here and download the app.
The download link is labeled as “Download Latest Version” on that page.
Launch the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app.
Note! By default, macOS preventing apps from unidentified developers or sources from being launched. So you most likely will get an alert message that says: “macOS Catalina Patcher.app can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”. To allow just one specific app to run do the following:
*Hold down the Control key and click the app icon. From the contextual menu choose Open.
*A popup will appear asking you to confirm this action. Click the Open button.
Click the “Continue” button, and then select “Download a Copy”.
Confirm that you want to download the “Install macOS Catalina.app” app to start the download to your hard drive.
Close the “macOS Catalina Patcher” app when the download is complete and locate the “Install macOS Catalina.app” file you downloaded.

*If you want to use your USB stick with an Apple Mac, you will need to restart or power-on the Mac with the USB stick inserted while the Option/alt (⌥) key is pressed. This will launch Apple’s ‘Startup Manager’ which shows bootable devices connected to the machine.
*Ubuntu images (and potentially some other related GNU/Linux distributions) have a peculiar format that allows the image to boot without any further modification from both CDs and USB drives. A consequence of this enhancement is that some programs, like parted get confused about the drive’s format and partition table, printing warnings such as.
*’Win32 Disk Imager’ aka ’Win32 Image Writer’ is a free utility available for Windows which can be used for writing and restoring images from removable drives (USB drives, SD Memory cards, etc). Maybe it’s because the Windows version was built in the same shop as the Exchange service. Or maybe Microsoft has an understandable bias to Windows. Regardless, us Apple lovers pay the price. In fact, Microsoft’s own knowledge base says that Mac users may see performance issues if they receive as few as 30 emails per day.
Some of the difference can be attributed to how each client connects to the Exchange server. I’m going to explain this. And, if you’re having Outlook OS X performance issues (if it freezes, crashes, or forces you to rebuild your Microsoft User identity), I’m going to offer some tips for getting Outlook 2011 performing at a higher level.Outlook connection methods: Windows vs. OS X
Most Windows users connect to Exchange via RPC/HTTP(s), aka Outlook Anywhere. This proprietary protocol was made specifically for Outlook for Windows and the Exchange server. Its main advantage is that the complexity of the connection is a lot lower. Fewer moving parts means sturdier and faster connection.
There’s another protocol for connecting to Exchange servers: EWS (Exchange Web Services). This one is built around Web Services, which allows most platforms to build clients to utilize it. OS X cannot use RPC/HTTP(s), so Outlook for OS X uses EWS, which is the best available method.

With Outlook for OS X, we’ve seen a direct relationship between mailbox size and client performance: the larger the mailbox grows, the more Outlook’s performance will suffer. It often comes to the point where your data gets corrupted and needs to be entirely rebuilt.
So, of the two optimization categories, mailbox size is far more impactful. It’s especially valuable if you’re a power user or you have a fairly large mailbox.
*Set a shorter mail retention policy. Outlook for OS X doesn’t like big mailboxes. So set a policy to delete messages that are, say, 90 or 180 or 360 days old. This will keep Outlook lighter and, thus, speedier. (The downside, of course, is that you lose all your old messages). Here’s some guidance from Apple on increasing your disk space. If you want to see how much space you have, use the Disk Utility (located in Applications > Utilities).

Consumers could buy SACDs before they bought surround systems and their purchases wouldn’t be obsolete when they upgraded. The same discs would play in their cars, their portable players, their children’s boom boxes, and the surround systems in their listening rooms.
Further, DVD-Video was making significant progress in homes, helped by low-cost but low-quality ’home theater in a box’ surround systems. One might assume that surround audio on a CD-sized disk would be an easy sell.
So why was SACD not a commercial success?
First, there was a format war. The DVD Forum, headed by Toshiba, refused to pay patent royalties to Sony and Philips, and they launched a competing format: DVD-Audio, which couldn’t be played in a CD player. Ironically, the royalty for an SACD was the same as for a CD: $.10 per disc, while the royalty on a DVD-Audio disc was around four times higher.
Record labels chose sides. The Warner group, part of the DVD Forum, went with DVD-Audio, and Universal and Sony chose SACD. Consumers are understandably reluctant to choose one new format over another -- they remembered the Beta vs. VHS format war -- so neither SACD nor DVD-Audio gained significant traction.
Then came the bombshell. Like Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition, nobody expected the iPod. While there were MP3 players that preceded the iPod, they were clunky, difficult to use, and thus had limited success. Steve Jobs and his crew put a simple, straightforward user interface in an elegant package that was a huge hit. Never mind that it used MP3 files (although it could also play PCM files).
The mass market fell in love with the iPod. Consumers didn’t care that its supplied earbuds were poor quality and that its MP3 files didn’t sound as good as CDs, let alone high-resolution. Then Apple released its iTunes software, first for the Mac and then for Windows, and they started selling music at $.99/track through the iTunes Music Store. Apple made it easy for the average consumer to buy music and carry it in a convenient package.
The money that consumers would have spent by on high-resolution surround sound instead went to portable music, and the demand needed to establish a viable high-resolution format never materialized.

Consumers could buy SACDs before they bought surround systems and their purchases wouldn’t be obsolete when they upgraded. The same discs would play in their cars, their portable players, their children’s boom boxes, and the surround systems in their listening rooms.
Further, DVD-Video was making significant progress in homes, helped by low-cost but low-quality ’home theater in a box’ surround systems. One might assume that surround audio on a CD-sized disk would be an easy sell.
So why was SACD not a commercial success?
First, there was a format war. The DVD Forum, headed by Toshiba, refused to pay patent royalties to Sony and Philips, and they launched a competing format: DVD-Audio, which couldn’t be played in a CD player. Ironically, the royalty for an SACD was the same as for a CD: $.10 per disc, while the royalty on a DVD-Audio disc was around four times higher.
Record labels chose sides. The Warner group, part of the DVD Forum, went with DVD-Audio, and Universal and Sony chose SACD. Consumers are understandably reluctant to choose one new format over another -- they remembered the Beta vs. VHS format war -- so neither SACD nor DVD-Audio gained significant traction.
Then came the bombshell. Like Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition, nobody expected the iPod. While there were MP3 players that preceded the iPod, they were clunky, difficult to use, and thus had limited success. Steve Jobs and his crew put a simple, straightforward user interface in an elegant package that was a huge hit. Never mind that it used MP3 files (although it could also play PCM files).
The mass market fell in love with the iPod. Consumers didn’t care that its supplied earbuds were poor quality and that its MP3 files didn’t sound as good as CDs, let alone high-resolution. Then Apple released its iTunes software, first for the Mac and then for Windows, and they started selling music at $.99/track through the iTunes Music Store. Apple made it easy for the average consumer to buy music and carry it in a convenient package.
The money that consumers would have spent by on high-resolution surround sound instead went to portable music, and the demand needed to establish a viable high-resolution format never materialized.

More and more of our clients are now using Apple computers. And while I love my new Macbook Air, there are some pretty significant barriers to working with Arabic text on a Mac.
Once the uninstall is complete, sign in again to www.office.com and select Other install options, choose the language and version you want (64 or 32-bit), and then select Install. First off, let’s stop for a minute and reflect on how outrageous it is that Microsoft has not included this critical function in Office for Mac, the standard “work” software used around the world.
If you’re like me, you can join this Facebook group calling on Microsoft to offer Arabic support in future versions of Office for Mac.
Using Arabic on Mac is more difficult than on a Windows PC but it’s not impossible. So we’ve put together this quick guide for getting the most out of your Mac within an Arabic environment.
Enabling Arabic Language Support on the Mac
Step one is to turn on Arabic language support within Apple’s OS X operating system.
To do this, click the Apple logo at the top left of your screen and select “System Preferences.” Click “Language & Region,” then click the plus arrow and select Arabic. Select whether you want to have Arabic be the primary language (which will Arabize your full operating system) or as a secondary language for use in certain applications.
Under”Keyboard Preferences” you will be able to select from a variety of keyboard layouts (including a helpful QWERTY version if you are unfamiliar with typing on a standard Arabic layout).
Now you’re all set. When you go to the upper right corner of your screen you should see a little flag icon (in my case U.S. for American English). Click that icon and you will see a drop down menu for you to select Arabic (or whatever other input languages you need).
Use this menu to toggle between input languages when you’re inside an application.
If you are going to be doing extensive Arabic word processing and your computer doesn’t have an Arabic-style keyboard, you will want to consider buying some Mac Arabic keyboard stickers, so you can see which key goes with which letter and type quickly.
If you just need to do minor edits or write the occasional email, you can use the text-input function at Yamli.com or the QWERTY keyboard layout which is fairly intuitive.
Another option for inputting text is the on-screen keyboard to click letters with your mouse; just select the “Open Keyboard Preferences” option in the image above and hunt and peck away.

If you are trying to work with an Arabic language Word doc that someone has sent you, one of two things are going to happen when you open the file on your Mac:
*The file will work totally normally in Arabic (about 40% of the time)
*The file will contain weird formatting glitches, e.g. some text will appear as little boxes, or letters will be disconnected from each other (about 60% of the time)
If the document looks okay, you’ve hit the jackpot and can take your colleagues out for a celebratory Starbucks. If not, it’s time for Plan B.
Plan B: The Google Drive Workaround
If your document doesn’t open correctly in Word, the only way you will be able to see it is with a little trick using Google Drive (formerly known as Google Docs). Here’s how it works:
*If you don’t already have a Google account, create one here.
*Open your Google Drive page by going to http://drive.google.com
*Click the upload button, select “files” and then find and select the Arabic “.docx” file you want to work with. The file will upload to Google, and you should be able to see your file in the list. Click the file to open and view.
*If you need to actually edit the file you are working with, just select the file from your Google Drive file list and click “Export to Google Docs.” This will create an editable version of the file that you can work with using the Google Docs editor.
*When you are finished editing your file, you can download a version of it to share with your colleagues, in MS Word, PDF, or RTF formats.
A caveat: this system can go awry when you are dealing with heavily formatted documents, and large files that are slow to upload and process in Drive.
But this trick is workable for emails, short articles, and other routine jobs.Mac Os Change Language
If you are still running into issues with Google Drive, there are a few more options you can try:
Plan C: Open Source Office Clones
The Google work-around is best for smallish files with light formatting. But what if you have a spreadsheet, Powerpoint presentation or Word file with more involved formatting?
In this case, your best bet may be to install one of the handful of Office clones that are out there for Mac, many of which have much better Arabic support than Microsoft.
Our top recommendation for this is the NeoOffice suite. NeoOffice is a branch of the Open Office project and, while it’s not completely free, we’ve found it has the best support for Arabic which is well worth the $10-30 you will pay for a copy. It contains full-featured word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software that is able to work with MS Office file formats.
For a wide range of basic documents, this is an ideal choice. The Office clones can get problematic, however, if you are working with heavily formatted documents or doing back-and-forth revisions with someone using MS Office.
Plan D: Install Windows on your Mac (AKA The Nuclear Option…)
After much frustration with options A thru C, I finally decided it was time to do the unthinkable: install Windows and Office for Windows on my Mac.
When you are working professionally on Office documents in Arabic that require a good deal of formatting, or multiple rounds of revisions etc the only foolproof way to avoid glitches is to run the standard Office for Windows, which fully supports Arabic. The only way to do this is to first install the Windows operating system on your Mac.
There are two main plans of attack for getting Windows running on your Mac:
*Option 1: Boot Camp:This utility is part of Mac OS X and allows you to install Windows on a separate hard drive partition. The advantages of using Boot Camp are that it is free (although you still need to buy a copy of Windows and Office) and that the full resources of your computer are dedicated to Windows when it is running, meaning faster performance. The disadvantage is that switching between Windows and OSX requires a reboot, which makes it cumbersome to go back-and-forth between Windows and Mac applications.
*Option 2: Virtual Machines: Virtualization programs like Parallels and VMware Fusion allow you to run Windows just as you would any other app within OS X. Windows runs inside a dedicated window, allowing you to switch back and forth without rebooting and share files easily between the two environments. Aside from cost (around $60-90), the only downside to these “virtual machines” is that you will see a drop in performance because your computer’s resources are being split between the two operating systems. The slower performance is not a huge issue if you are limiting yourself to MS Office apps, but will become a bigger problem if you need to run more graphically intensive software.Office For Mac Language Pack

It remains frustrating that Mac users are forced to resort to these clunky workarounds to work professionally in the world’s fifth most spoken language.
